SESSION 9: Rheology of Biomaterials and Biological Systems (RBBS)


Biological materials and biological environment are playing a very important role in our life as their state and quality have a strong influence on human mood and well-being. Rheological measurements and modeling generally are used for physical and mechanical characterization of biological materials and biological systems. Indeed rheological measurements can elucidate the progress of the manufacturing process and the biological system itself. Components of biological systems can be classified in accordance with their consistency and they form a wide variety of phases; solids, fluids, gels, suspensions, emulsions, foams, etc. These consistency properties influence on technological processes and the design of processing equipment, as well as the safety, protection, preservation, packaging and storage of these materials. There are a wide range of different experimental methods used to investigate rheological properties of the materials and components of biological systems. In the last 5-10 years biologists, biophysicists, biochemists, physicists, doctors and bioengineers have made significant progress in rheology of biological materials and systems.

The RBBS session will provide a platform among leading scientists and researchers in the fields of rheology and material sciences. The session will include doctors, bioengineers, biologists, physicists, biophysicists, chemists, biochemists, mathematicians, industrialists, academics, students and PhD students. Recent achievements in rheology, microrheology, and material structures will be highlighted, in addition to research into the relationship between processing technology and the physical, chemical, mechanical and aesthetical properties of biological materials and biological systems.
