SESSION 15: Rheology of Nanofluids (RNF)

Symposium Polymer derived ceramics

Nanofluids are a class of suspensions constituted by a solid-liquid mixture with a continuous phase which is a nanometer sized nanoparticles (1 -100 nm), dispersed in conventional base fluids. They are of great technological importance and can be found in applications ranging from inks to pharmaceuticals to heat transfer fluids. Examples of actual and potential applications of nanofluids technology are in the transportation, microelectronics, defense, nuclear power, space, and biomedical industries.

Rheology of nanofluids is of great importance from a practical point of view. For example, in industrial applications the viscosity of the nanofluids has an important effect on pumping power of a fluid thereby reducing the overall benefit of a higher thermal conductivity fluid. In laminar flow, the pressure drop is directly proportional to the viscosity. Furthermore, convective heat transfer coefficient is influenced by viscosity.

Session RNF provides a platform among leading international scientists and researchers both of rheology and materials sciences including physicists, chemists, mechanics, mathematicians, engineers, students and PhD students for discussion and simulation of the recent achievements in rheology and in research and development of material structures and physical, chemical and mechanical properties of nanofluids suspensions.
